Friday 8 – Saturday 16 July 2011
In 2011, York Early Music Festival celebrates the spirit of the 1951 Festival of Britain which saw the first performances in modern times of the York Cycle of Mystery Plays. Highlights will include a series of concerts curated by Professor John Bryan reflecting the early music content – and context – of the times including a celebration of the publication of Musica Britannica, also founded in 1951, as the authoritative national collection of British music. Other concerts will look at the broader picture of music written by migrants working in England from across the European community – from the Middle Ages to Georgian England.
